Our Vision

DAMEN visualizes “Development” as a process of capacity building of the people in order to empower them to solve their socio-economic problems through collective action and their own participation.

Our Mission

Mission of DAMEN is to make the people of marginalized communities understand the true notion of development and build their capacity, which would enable them to organize themselves into groups for collective action leading towards self-reliance and empowerment.

Home School Education

Home School Education Program

Through its home school education program DAMEN seeks to help and, over time, empower poverty ridden females by providing them an opportunity to set up non formal home schools for imparting primary education to 5 to 14 year old out-of-school children. DAMEN currently supports 95 such female-run home schools in Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Okara and Nankana Sahib, which provide primary education to more than 4,300 children and thus keeps them off the streets and affords them a chance to educate, learn, and, hopefully, transition into productive citizens.

Many of these informal home schools lack basic infrastructure such as furniture, library resources and textbooks. Whereas DAMEN does as much as it can to make sure these children have access to a good quality of education through fee subsidies and training programs for teachers; a lot still needs to be done. Therefore, DAMEN is currently in the process of upgrading its home schools in terms of infrastructure and facilities. In this regard, DAMEN is seeking to collaborate with like-minded individuals or organizations that would like to contribute to this endeavor.
